Beatrice Basso
Beatrice Basso was born and raised in Asolo, near Venice. She is a curator, event organizer, teacher, and theater artist. After her studies in classics and theater at the University of Padua in Italy and Royal Holloway University of London, she moved to the Bay Area and worked in editing and outreach at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of San Francisco. Beatrice then served as Literary Manager and Dramaturg at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, CT, and Director of New Work at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.). Her translations have been presented at Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and A.C.T. She was cultural consultant on the academy award-nominated Pixar film, “Luca” and its accompanying short “Ciao Alberto.” Beatrice’s recent theater projects include performances at Cygnet Theater, Diversionary Theatre, and Casa Familiar. She also curated an exchange with multidisciplinary artists across the Tijuana/San Diego border. Beatrice obtained her MA in Curatorial Practice in Performance at Wesleyan University (Sam Miller thesis award) and is theater lecturer at UCSD. As Creative Director of the Italian Cultural Center of San Diego, she curates a wide variety of cultural events showcasing Italy’s constantly evolving multiplicities, which include her YouTube Series “Parole amate.”
